Blackjack

Objective : To reach twenty-one points or get as close as possible without going over that limit.

How to play: To make your bets, you have to decide on the amount of money you want to gamble. In a casino, bets are usually made with chips. You place your chip or chips on the table before cards are distributed.

The croupier will give you two cards. If your first two cards make 21, you have a Blackjack. If you do not have a Blackjack, you may keep on getting new cards until you approach 21 as much as possible without going over, or you may stay with your cards whenever you decide.

Player Rules:
Cards value: Aces have a value of 1 or 11, figures such as 10 and others have their usual value.

If your cards are closer to 21 than the croupier’s, you win the same amount of money you bet.
If you have Blackjack, your bet will be paid 3 to 2, unless the croupier has also a Blackjack.
If you go over 21, your bet is lost.
If your cards make the same as the croupier’s, it is a tie, so you get your bet back.

Croupier Rules: The croupier will give cards to himself. When he reaches 17 points he must stay, not being allowed to take any more cards. Otherwise, he will keep on taking cards until he reaches a total of 17 points or more.

Double: If your first two cards make 9, 10 or 11, you may “double”. That gives you the choice of doubling your bet, but you will only get an extra card and will not be able to take any others.

Six cards win: A six-card hand not over 21 wins, the croupier will not take any more cards for that hand.

Divide: If your first two cards are of the same value, you can “divide the pair”. This allows you to consider every card as the first of two different hands. You must bet on your second card as much as you did on your first.

Note: Blackjacks are not allowed in divided hands. They are worth 21, so they are not paid 3 to 2.
Two divided aces are given only one extra card and are not allowed to double nor to take any more cards.

Insurance:
If the card shown by the croupier is an ace, you may get insurance against a possible Blackjack from the bank. The croupier will ask you to make this choice. It costs half as much as your original bet.
If the croupier has a Blackjack, insurance will pay 2 to 1.
If the croupier does not get a Blackjack, your insurance money is lost. Then your cards will be compared to the croupier’s.
